    Welcome

    Premium Wines from South Australia

  • THE PIONEER ROAD STORY

Like many of Australia’s renowned wine regions, Langhorne Creek was founded by people with two important Characteristics: “The vision to see what could be and the passion to make it happen”. Pioneer Road is testimony to those who made the journey.

The Pioneer Road story reflects the transition of Langhorne Creek from a primarily farming and horticultural area south of Adelaide, to one of South Australia’s major wine producing regions.

Pioneer Road pays homage to a bygone era, before the region’s idyllic grape growing conditions were fully realised.

Project Wine has partnered with two of Langhorne Creek’s most experienced independent growers to source the fruit for the Pioneer Road range.

Pioneer Road works with growers to select specific premium vineyard sites, selectively prune and harvest them at optimum flavour ripeness, and have the fruit delivered to the Winery within 15 minutes.

Pioneer Road offers a selection of varietal wines, which carry the hallmarks for which Langhorne Creek has become renowned – consistent quality wines that offer varietal definition, fruit generosity and great value for money.

  • LANGHORNE CREEK

    Pioneering the Langhorne Creek region

    broken image

The Langhorne Creek region’s wine industry was born in the 1860s, however its presence was overshadowed by other agricultural ventures such as dairy, fruit, wheat and beef. It was a century after the first grapes were planted that Langhorne Creek’s prominence as a grape growing and wine producing region became recognised by winemakers and wine writers.

Over the last two decades, the area under vines has expanded rapidly and, while retaining its unique sense of history, “The Creek” has become recognised for producing consistent and affordable, quality wines.

    Peter Pollard

    Winemaker

Peter was introduced to the wine industry at a young age and quickly developed a passion. While studying for a degree in Oenology at the University of Adelaide, Peter completed a vintage with Peter Lehmann Wines in the Barossa Valley. Intent on broadening his experience, Peter spent the first half of 2001 working as a contract winemaker with Simeon Wines at Loxton and then travelled to the USA to work the 2001 vintage with Geyser Peak Wines in Sonoma Valley, California. In 2001 Peter joined Langhorne Creek Winery as Assistant Winemaker. Peter continued to grow and challenge himself as the business has expanded and he is now Pioneer Road’s Senior Winemaker. In his spare time Peter enjoys his cricket and football and catching up with family and friends.

    Alicia Zerella

    Designer

After spending her entire school life at Loreto College Marryatville, Alicia successfully completed Year 12 in 2008. Having always shown an interest in various elements of design, it was no surprise that upon completing high school, Alicia was accepted into Uni SA, where she continued to study. Given her family background, Alicia’s interest in wine and particularly wine labelling is also no surprise. At the age of four she turned her cubby house into a cellar door and she became quite a label critic after hours of walking through wine shops and trying to find her favourite label. As she begins to grow her label portfolio, Alicia hopes you will enjoy the Pioneer Road experience as much as she has.
